This course is essential for workers to detect cables safely and correctly. Delegates will review legal requirements, ensure safety compliance, and understand procedures, appropriate documentation and classifications. They will gain necessary skills, knowledge, and understanding to safely carry out cable avoidance work. It is for Operatives and Supervisors needing to locate underground apparatus for work on the roadways, highways and other sites.
There are several modules covered in the City And Guilds CAT & GENNY courses
including:
• Basic principles in locating and avoiding underground services.
• Identifying hazards and the risks they pose.
• Reading and interpreting site plans.
• Practical use of equipment including the CAT 4.
By the end of the course delegates will be able to:
• Understand what regulations and Codes of Practice apply
• Correctly use common location equipment.
• Correctly identify samples of common services.
• Understand the benefit of Permit Systems.
• Identification of services from drawings.
• Carry out a survey and produce a sketch of services found.
• Safe digging practices
Assessment:
With a mix of practical and theory-based exercises, videos, and tutorials, delegates will cover manufacturer and general knowledge and awareness of utility services and participate in practical activities to learn best practices and operating methods to detect cables for excavation preparation.
On successfully completing the course, delegates receive a City and Guilds CAT & GENNY certificate and ID card, valid for three years.
