About: The CSR Health and Safety Training scheme comprises of a one-day safety awareness training, and is aimed at all construction personnel, including new entrants, to ensure that they have a basic knowledge of health and safety to comply with relevant legislation and make them aware of the inherent dangers on construction sites.

It can sometimes be referred to as the ‘site pass’ or ‘safe pass’ (ROI alternative) and is considered as ‘passport’ access onto a construction site.

To complement the training, the employer also has a statutory duty to provide information, instruction and other appropriate health and safety awareness training to employees.

PLEASE NOTE: If you have a Construction-related NVQ in your trade, you may be eligible to apply for a Skilled or Craft Specific CSR Card.

What will I learn?

The aims of the CSR registration scheme are to:

  • Raise standards of health and safety;
  • Provide recognition of skills, experience and qualifications attained; &
  • Reduce risks and accidents in the industry.

Course Contents:

The course is divided into 4 main sections:

  • Fundamental Practicalities of Health and Safety
  • Safe Systems of Work
  • Health Awareness
  • Hazards and Controls

Included within the 4 sections are the following subject areas:

  • Improved safety culture
  • Reduction in accidents, mortality and morbidity rate
  • Reduction in lost time due to accidents
  • Improved staff morale
  • Identification of personnel with recognised Health and Safety training

Where is it recognised?

Northern Ireland: CSR is the recognised and accepted training scheme in Northern Ireland, therefore it is accepted NI wide.

Great Britain: CSR is affiliated to the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) in Great Britain and is accepted as equivalent to CSCS. The only exception to this rule is the White Health & Safety Trained card – this is not accepted in GB.

Republic of Ireland: The CSR health and safety training is equivalent to the health and safety element of the SOLAS Safe Pass Card in the Republic of Ireland.

Assessment/Examination: Individuals are assessed via a 20 question multiple choice question paper.

Certification: On completion of your CSR course, you will be registered with the Construction Federation and receive an In-House HASI CSR Certificate and be issued with a CSR card which allows you to work on site.
